Next steps
- Open the NerdTeks Secure Backup console or download the backup agent.
- Sign in with the backup username and temporary backup password from your welcome email.
- Change the temporary backup password when prompted and register the first device.
- Select the data that should be protected and run the first backup.
- Use the NerdTeks-created storage vault for schedules; do not create a new storage vault unless NerdTeks directs you to.
- Leave the device powered on, awake, and connected until the first backup completes.
- Enable MFA from your account settings after the first device is connected and the first backup is verified.

Dashboard security
The NerdTeks Secure Backup setup dashboard and the backup console use separate passwords. This dashboard password protects plan changes, billing requests, and setup links; it does not change, store, or sync your backup console password.

Scan the QR code with an authenticator app, then enter the 6-digit code. Use the setup link or manual secret only if scanning is unavailable.

Setup and help guides
Pick the guide that matches what you are protecting. Standard workstation backups can usually be started here. Production servers, databases, Microsoft 365, virtual machines, NAS shares, ransomware, and restore events should be reviewed with NerdTeks before changes are made.
Download the agent, sign in, and register the first device.
Choose the protected data and the NerdTeks-created storage vault.
Leave the device online until the first backup completes.
Confirm the first success, then enable backup-console MFA.

Good for normal laptops, desktops, and user files.
First device setup
Install the agent, sign in with the temporary backup password, change it, select data, run the first backup, and keep the device awake until it finishes.
Files and folders
Add Desktop, Documents, project folders, accounting exports, and business folders with the plus button or drag-and-drop. Avoid cache, temp, downloads, and local image files unless NerdTeks approves them.
iCloud and OneDrive
Online-only files must be downloaded locally before a file backup can protect them. Ask NerdTeks about Microsoft 365 backup for tenant-level protection.
Installer blocked
If macOS blocks the installer, continue only when it came from the NerdTeks Secure Backup portal, then use Privacy & Security to open it anyway.
NerdTeks-reviewed backup types
Use these for business-critical systems and special workloads.
Disk image backup
Full Windows disk protection for bare-metal recovery. The first run is large; later runs are normally incremental. NerdTeks should assist with full-computer recovery.
Microsoft 365
Mailbox, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams protection may require tenant permissions, retention review, and a restore test before relying on it.
Servers and databases
SQL, MySQL/MariaDB, accounting systems, and application-aware jobs need permissions, backup windows, consistency checks, exclusions, and restore testing.
Hyper-V and VMware
VM backups need host access, datastore review, snapshot planning, storage sizing, and a known restore target before production use.
NAS and SMB shares
Use an always-on device, a UNC path, and a dedicated account. NerdTeks should confirm access, schedule, retention, and a small restore test.
Program output
Use scripted exports only after NerdTeks reviews the command, output path, credentials, error handling, and restore process.

Backup warning checklist
Keep the device online, check recent password, path, permission, app, firewall, VPN, or internet changes, then send NerdTeks the device name, error, and last success time.
Monthly backup summary
Use monthly summaries for trend review. Immediate warning/error reports are the signal for jobs that need faster attention.
MFA and login timing
The setup dashboard and backup console use separate passwords. Enable backup-console MFA after the first device is connected and verified.
Ransomware or restore event
Do not delete files, wipe devices, rerun failed backups, or restore over live data until NerdTeks reviews the situation.
Backup assistant
Ask setup, agent, alert, MFA, storage, billing handoff, or restore-prep questions. The assistant keeps the conversation on this page and will tell you when NerdTeks should review the issue.
Do not send passwords, MFA codes, payment card numbers, or sensitive client data through the assistant.
Backup health alerts
If a backup alert appears, keep the device online and contact NerdTeks with the device name, error message, last successful backup time, and any recent password, permission, file path, app, firewall, or internet changes.
For server, database, Microsoft 365, ransomware, or restore issues, contact NerdTeks before making changes to protected data.
